If you have a cat, you probably have a problem with it scratching up your furniture. Cats do need to scratch. They do this to leave their scent, stretch their muscles and legs, and remove the outside layer of their nails. Many people do not want their cats scratching up their furniture, so here are a few tips to help prevent your cats from scratching your furniture.
The first way is to try a scent deterrent spray. Simply spray the scent deterrent where your cat may scratch on your furniture. You will need to apply this spray frequently though because the spray tends to quickly fade away.
Another way to stop a cat from scratching your furniture is to attach plastic panels or aluminum foil to the areas where the cat scratches. This is not the most attractive way, but cats do not like to scratch these textures.
The last way to prevent your cat from scratching up your furniture is to offer plenty of cat-scratching posts. You may want to first try a scratching post with an angle or a horizontal scratching mat rather than a vertical scratching post. Cats tend to prefer these more than vertical ones. Also, keep your cat-scratching post in an area where your cat spends the most time.
These are just a few ways to help you to prevent your cat from scratching up your furniture.
