When you are trying to enjoy your backyard, the mosquitoes can be annoying. So if you are having a mosquito problem, here are a few steps to help you to reduce your mosquito population.
The first step is to inspect your yard for any standing water, even a small amount, and get rid of it. Mosquito breeding grounds can be found in the smallest amount of water so check tree holes, discarded cans and containers, outdoor flower pot saucers, and clogged rain gutters. Bird baths can also be a breeding ground for mosquitoes, so try to change the water weekly. There are also mosquito-reducing products available for your water gardens and ponds.
Another step is to plant mosquito repellent plants. Some of these plants are citronella, lavender, rosemary, marigolds, and bee balm. Mosquitoes do not like any of these plants.
The last step is to invite more mosquito predators into your yard. You can do this by simply installing a bat or bird house. Bats love to eat mosquitoes and some birds do too.
These are just a few simple steps to help you to reduce your mosquito population so that you can enjoy your backyard without the mosquitoes.
