There are some people who love squirrels and do not mind the squirrels eating from their bird feeders. There are others who would rather the squirrels eat elsewhere and leave their bird feeders alone. Here are a few suggestions to help to reduce the squirrels from visiting your bird feeder.

The first suggestion is to try to make the pole that your bird feeder hangs on difficult to climb up. You could try attaching a squirrel baffle to the pole. Some suggest using a slinky and wrapping it around the pole, which makes it very difficult for a squirrel to climb upon.

Another suggestion is to try using a squirrel-resistant or a caged bird feeder. If you decide to go with a caged bird feeder just remember that if a squirrel is small enough, it can still get through. Also, those types of bird feeders will only allow small birds to enter, and keep the larger ones out.

The last suggestion is that if you just cannot get rid of those squirrels, you may want to offer them their own food. You could make your own feeder, or you can use a dry corn cob feeder. If you offer them their own food, the squirrels may just leave your bird feeder alone.

These few suggestions will hopefully help you to reduce the visits from the squirrels to your birdfeeder. Then, you will be able to enjoy watching the birds more fully.
